(WO) –Drilling Systems, an advanced drilling simulation technology provider, has secured a contract win PETRONAS. The contract award was made as part of a competitive tender process, seeing Drilling Systems provide its learning technology ‘Drill the Well on Simulator’ (DWOS) solution to support PETRONAS’ training and development program across a three-year period.

Customized simulations for better outcomes: Drilling Systems’ “Drill the Well on Simulator” solution
Creating customized simulations of drilling and well control scenarios, the project is bolstered by its collaboration with local partner, Eftech Energy Solutions Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Eftech Drilling Solutions Sdn Bhd), a Malaysian company who provide Real-Time Operations Services and drilling digitalization.
The use of immersive learning technologies within training programs is widely proven to deliver better outcomes for both employee and employer, including knowledge retention and increased engagement; and this well-specific technological development will further instill confidence in the crew’s ability.
Enhancing safety through digital twin technology in drilling simulations
Drilling Systems’ digital twin technology will also be used to imitate the exact rig environment to allow customization of the equipment and control systems based on the specific rig being used for the well. This makes the training more immersive with true-to-life experiences practiced within a risk-free environment that will assist them within their safety-critical roles, whilst also making the learning as realistic and immersive as possible.
DWOS: A tailored approach for technical excellence and enhanced safety in the industry
DWOS complements the already well-established Drill Well on Paper (DWOP) exercises, utilizing Drilling Systems’ mobile ‘On-the-Rig’ (OTR) simulator.
Max Wyndham, Head of Business Development at Drilling Systems commented, “The training will provide a fantastic tool to mitigate drilling risks and human error when preparing crews for a range of potential safety critical scenarios and non-routine operations. The tailored approach of DWOS will allow the well-specific data to be interpreted and transformed into virtual reality, improving technical excellence of the crew and enhancing overall safety for the industry.”
